Mauricio Cano del Valle

Mr. Cano holds a Law Degree (JD) from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de Mexico (ITAM), and a Master’s Degree in Law and Economics from Universidad Complutense de Madrid. He also completed an MBA from the Instituto Panamericano de Alta Dirección de Empresas (IPADE), as well as a Specialty in Tax Law from Universidad Panamericana and a Diploma in International Taxation from Duke University and ITAM.

Mr. Cano has extensive experience working in taxation matters both for the public and private sectors. His professional background includes employment with the Mexican Ministry of Finance, Deloitte and Touche Mexico where he was a Senior Lawyer, and the Amicorp Group, where he served as the Managing Director for both their Mexico City and San Diego offices.

He has been a professor at both the undergraduate and the graduate level at ITAM, with lectures on Public Policy and Economic Analysis of the Law. He is the author of the book “Game Theory and Tax Evasion” published in Mexico in 2006 and a paper on “Game Theory and Minimum Taxes” which was included in the book “Game Theory and Contemporary Law” published in Mexico in 2009. He has also authored various articles and published papers on international taxation and has been a guest speaker in numerous events both in Mexico and abroad.

He is a permanent member of the Mexican and the U.S. Chapter of the International Fiscal Association (IFA) and a full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) for which he serves as a member of the Board of their San Diego chapter. During his professional career, Mr. Cano has worked extensively on Mexican taxation matters, international tax planning, inbound and outbound investment structuring, tax treaties, transfer pricing and tax litigation. He speaks Spanish, English and French fluently.

Arturo Brook

Mr. Brook holds a Law Degree (JD) from Universidad Panamericana and a Master’s of Law (LLM in Comparative Law) from the University of San Diego School of Law. He started his career with KPMG working in Mexico City, and afterward had assignments in Los Angeles and San Diego.

He was later an Associate at the Mexican tax boutique of Chevez Ruiz Zamarripa during the firm’s joint venture with KPMG where he advised multinationals operating in Mexico on tax and legal matters. He then joined Ernst & Young working as a Manager in the international tax services group in Southern California, where he focused on international holding structures for large corporations and on tax minimization strategies in Mexico and Latin America.

After working in the big four for many years he joined the financial services industry in Southern California, specializing in wealth planning in the international private banking divisions. He was a Senior Vice President in Bank of America and in UBS, where he focused on wealth planning for high net worth clients and in integrating strategies to preserve and transfer the family wealth of entrepreneurs.

Mr. Brook has over 19 years of international tax and legal experience, has been a frequent speaker on Mexican and international tax topics and is fluent in Spanish and English.
